A realistic commitment after ten years of relationship

We realized an important aspect: ten years together should not be transformed into a simple story about “everything is mine” or “everything is ours”.

There were contributions to document, goods and obligations to clarify, and any separation had to be done legally and correctly.

In the coming days, we started to separate current expenses and kept a record of all payments. And Mihai, for the first time in ten years, started asking the questions he had avoided.

Why was marriage so important to me? And why did two suitcases near the kitchen table scare him more than any quarrel I had had before?

The answer to the last question was simple. For the first time, he realized I could leave. Three days later, he came to my living room.

“I made you not want marriage because I’m afraid I don’t feel compelled.
