“Officer Davis, I need to see the physical copy of the incident report you are writing,” I said.
Davis slowly let his arms drop, his chair coming forward with a dull thud.
“That’s administrative paperwork, ma’am,” Davis said, waving a hand toward Robert and Vanessa. “Like I said, this is a domestic dispute. We’re going to let the family handle the placement details without getting the county courts involved.”
“My father is a private citizen in his own county,” I said. “You cannot hold him here without a formal charge or a medical hold signed by a physician.”
“Look, lady,” Davis said, leaning forward on his elbows. “Your brother and sister-in-law filed a statement. Why don’t you go outside, talk it over with them, and let us do our jobs?”
I looked at Robert, who was still staring at the floorboards, and then at Vanessa, whose eyes were fixed on my leather shoulder bag.
“I am not going to ask you a second time, Officer,” I said.
