fingers, and tested her circulation. I kept asking what had happened, but no one gave me a clear answer.
Margaret sat silently in the corner, holding something tightly inside her fist.
When one of the paramedics asked her to open her hand, I saw a long, almost invisible strand of blond hair resting in her
palm. I stared at her in confusion.
The paramedic placed the strand of hair on a white piece of paper.
“It was wrapped around the baby’s wrist,” he explained. “It was probably trapped inside the sleeve of her clothing and
gradually tightened.”
I didn’t understand.
How could a single strand of hair leave a mark like that?
The paramedic explained that a baby’s skin is extremely delicate. A strand of hair or a thin thread can wrap so tightly around a finger or wrist that it restricts the natural flow of blood. If it isn’t noticed in time, the consequences can be serious.
