Then I reached the final paragraph.
And everything changed again.
“My children will still receive their inheritance.
I love them.
But I have left them exactly what I believe they need — not everything they believe they deserve.
They will receive their shares only after they respect my final wishes concerning you.”
I looked at the attorney.
“What wishes?”
He took a slow breath.
“Thomas left them a choice.”
His children could keep their inheritance.
But first, they had to return every personal item that belonged to me.
My clothes.
My photographs.
My wedding ring.
And Thomas’s photograph.
The same photograph I had begged them to let me take.
There was one more condition.
They had to leave the mansion within thirty days.
Because the house was now legally mine.
