I Took My Twin Children, Both Battling Stage 4 Cancer, to See the Ocean and Fulfill Their Greatest—and Perhaps FINAL—WISH… But Then the Hotel Manager Knocked on Our Door and Said, “There’s Something About This Trip You Don’t Know”…

Finally, I found the strength to keep reading.

Chris had written that he had paid for the entire trip. My father had simply agreed to give me the money in his own name because they both knew that if I discovered the truth, I would never accept it.

The next lines of the letter were even harder to read.

Chris wrote that on the day he learned about Lily’s diagnosis, he had been terrified. Not simply of the disease, but of the possibility that he might lose his child.

And instead of staying and fighting beside us, he had run away.

But everything changed on the day he learned that, months later, Ben had been diagnosed too.

He couldn’t believe that he had abandoned his sick daughter, and while he was hiding from his own fear, his son had become sick as well.
