I went into the forest with my father. Suddenly, he grabbed my hand and said, “Finally, we’re alone. Come here, let me kiss you. I’ve wanted to do this for so long.” I recoiled from him in horror. But my father came closer, took me by the shoulders, and whispered, “Don’t be afraid, darling. Your mother will never know what happened between us.” I started shaking. And when he said, “I’ve waited 19 years for this moment,” I froze in fear…

I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer.

I turned to my father.

He stood there silently, holding a small ring in his hand.

I walked up to him.

  • Dad…

He looked at me.

  • Can I hug you now?

I hugged him tightly.

He kissed me tenderly on the forehead.

And at that moment I finally understood why he wanted to bring me to this place so much.

Six months have passed since that day.

I keep Catherine’s ring in a special jewelry box.

And I love Margaret more than ever.

One afternoon I asked her:

  • Mom, why were you so scared when you found out that Dad took me to the forest ?

She smiled sadly.

  • Because I thought that once you found out the truth, you would never call me mom again.

I hugged her.
