My Daughter Loaded Two Carts With Luxury Groceries and Told Me, “You Live Under My Roof, So Pay”—She Had No Idea What I Would Cancel Before Midnight

“Evelyn!”

Ruth walked to the window.

“Oh, absolutely not.”

She stepped outside before I could stop her.

“This is my home. You do not beat on my door like you’re serving a warrant.”

Grant ignored her.

“Where is Evelyn?”

I came onto the porch.

Melissa rushed toward the front gate.

“Mom, what did you do?”

“I handled my finances.”

“The internet was disconnected in the middle of Grant’s presentation!”

Grant pointed at me.

“I lost a call with two regional vice presidents because of you.”

“No,” I said. “You lost your internet because you never transferred your household account out of my name.”

“You knew I was working!”

“And you knew I was paying.”

His face hardened.

“You are going to fix it.”

“No.”

Melissa grabbed the gate.
