«Two months.»
I turned toward Andrew.
«Are you telling me you have a two-month-old son with your ex-wife?»
«Helen, it’s not that simple.»
Those words destroyed the last of my self-control.
«Then explain it to me.»
Marina lowered her eyes.
It turned out that she and Andrew had started growing close again eighteen months earlier. At first, their meetings concerned problems their daughter was having at school. Then came coffee dates, conversations about the past, and memories of their years together.
Marina admitted that she had made a terrible mistake by allowing Andrew back into her life.
But the worst part was still to come.
Andrew had convinced her that our marriage existed only on paper.
He had claimed that we slept in separate bedrooms, barely spoke to each other, and planned to divorce as soon as we settled our financial affairs.
