I’ve seen a version of this on a page with eight thousand comments where I’m arrested and then dramatically vindicated in a courtroom.
What actually happened is that two Scottsdale officers came to Delphine’s condo at nine-forty on the Thursday morning and were there for about thirty-five minutes.
One of them, a woman named Officer Yetunde Balogun, did almost all the talking.
I gave her the blue folder.
She sat at Delphine’s kitchen table and went through it — receipts, warranty registrations in my name, the appliance store purchase records, the financing agreement — and then she went through the three-page inventory sheet that Mbeki the mover had signed, and the photographs.
It took her maybe twenty minutes.
And then she closed the folder and said:
“Ma’am, this is a civil matter and it’s not even a close one. You have purchase documentation in your own name for every item on this inventory. You didn’t damage the property. You didn’t take anything affixed to the house.”
