On the Day I Graduated from College, My Father Called Me Into His Bedroom and Said, “Whatever Happens Next, Your Mother Must Never Know. You’re 18 Now. It’s Time.” I Tried to Leave, but He Rushed to the Door and Locked It. What He Did Next Made Me Cry

“Downstairs. In our living room.”

“WHAT?!”

“She arrived today. I asked her to wait a few minutes while I explained everything to you.”

I didn’t wait another second.

I ran out of the bedroom and hurried down the stairs.

My mother was standing near the living room doorway.

And in front of her stood a young woman.

My mother kept looking from her to me.

The cup in her hand slipped onto the carpet.

“Robert…” she whispered as my father came downstairs. “Who is this?”

My father walked toward her.

“Linda, I never wanted to hurt you. But today, the greatest miracle of our family’s life has happened.”

Sophia began crying.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to call you Mom…”

My mother covered her mouth with both hands.
