I gripped the phone.
“What page?”
“It appears to be a handwritten note. The signature is hard to verify from the scan, but it looks like your mother’s.”
My heart pounded.
“What does it say?”
Serena was silent for a moment.

“If Mara ever learns the truth, tell her I did not take the money for myself. I took it to keep the boys alive.”
