She had recognized the fear.
Over the following weeks, Nia returned to the hospital regularly. The doctors monitored the ovarian growth, checked her hormone levels, and watched the baby closely.
Every appointment still made her nervous, but each time the news was reassuring.
The baby continued growing normally.
Near the end of the pregnancy, Marcus took a photograph of Nia sitting on their couch with her hands resting beneath her enormous belly.
She immediately told him to delete it.
The hair was still visible, her body looked completely different, and she hated the photograph.
Marcus refused.
“This is the body that carried the baby we waited six years for,” he told her.
Nia kept the picture.
Several weeks later, their daughter was born healthy.
