They stopped in front of me.
“Are you our Aunt Margaret?” the little girl asked.
I knelt in front of her.
“Yes, sweetheart. I am.”
She threw her arms around my neck.
“Mommy told us you were very kind when you were little.”
I couldn’t hold back my tears.
Eight months have passed.
Sarah’s health has improved, and she has returned to work. Her children now visit our house regularly.
Emily has used part of her savings to help with their education, while keeping the rest for her own future.
One evening, I asked my daughter something that had been on my mind for months.
“Emily, why didn’t you tell me for five years?”
She looked at me with tears in her eyes.
“Mom, I wanted to tell you so many times. But I was afraid that if Sarah refused to see you, your heart would break all over again. And Dad kept telling me we should wait a little longer.”
