Why are they coming?
My father did not answer.
He simply handed me the letter.
She was written by the youngest daughter, Jessica.
I started reading.
“Dear Mr. Robert:
For thirty years I thought that some charity had been helping our family.
We only recently discovered that, during all those years, it was you.
I’m a doctor today.
My sister Sarah is a teacher.
And Mary works at a child protection center.
All three of us have our professions, our families and our own children.
And a part of it all we owe to you.
Our father saved his life that night.
And for the next thirty years, you helped us build ours.
We would like to visit him and embrace him for the first time.”
I couldn’t keep reading.
