The Bus Left the Main Road at Night. Everyone Thought the Driver Had Made a Mistake. Only My Husband Realized It Wasn’t an Accident…

I wanted to ask what he meant by “don’t be the first one to get off,” but Robert put a finger to his lips.

People inside the bus were already shifting nervously in their seats.

A woman in the row ahead tried to make a call.

“There’s no signal,” she said.

Someone else looked at their phone.

“Mine either.”

By then, everyone could feel that something was wrong.

The bus kept climbing along the narrow road.

On one side was a cliff.

On the other, a dark valley.

No lights.

No houses.

Only forest.

I leaned closer to Robert again.

“What do you know about this road?”

He took a long breath.

“Forty years ago, I worked here with a road construction crew.”

I froze.

Robert had never told me that.
