The Bus Left the Main Road at Night. Everyone Thought the Driver Had Made a Mistake. Only My Husband Realized It Wasn’t an Accident…

“You never told her?”

Robert stayed silent.

By then, I was already angry.

“Told me what?”

Frank picked up one of the old papers.

“This road wasn’t closed years ago only because it was dangerous. There was an emergency tunnel built up here.”

I didn’t understand.

“What does that have to do with our bus?”

Frank looked at Robert.

“Forty years ago, Robert was one of the people who noticed that the retaining wall in this section had been built incorrectly.”

Robert stared at the floor.

“He warned the supervisors. No one listened.”

I looked at my husband.

“Why did you never tell me this?”

He answered very quietly.

“Because a week later, there was a collapse.”

I stopped breathing for a moment.

“Were people inside?”

“Yes.”

Frank continued.
