He looked exhausted.
And happier than I had seen him in years.
When he came through the door, I tried to act normal.
“Well?”
He dropped onto a kitchen chair.
“Mom, it was amazing.”
He told me about the music, the terrible food, and how Celeste convinced him to dance even though he had nearly stepped on her dress.
He told me people he’d barely spoken to before had spent half the night talking to him.
Then he looked at me.
“You were wrong about her.”
I smiled.
“I know.”
He seemed surprised that I admitted it so easily.
I walked around the table and hugged him.
Tobin stiffened for half a second.
Then he hugged me back.
“I’m proud of you,” I whispered.
“For going to prom?”
